The day you broke my heart.

Darling why did you break my heart
Why did you pull my life apart.
What did I do, what did I say,
To make you throw our love away.
You know how much I cared for you,
I really thought you loved me too.
I thought we had a life together,
A journey that would last forever.
But alas it’s not to be,
You found new love, it’s him not me.
I wish you happiness my love, my friend,
I’ll always love you till the end.
And when this world and I do part,
I’ll take with me your loving heart.
And know in truth you’ll be with me,
Forever more, eternity.
Better to have loved and lost than not to love at all.

I like the attitude here, well expressed. If your partner wants to go off with someone else, you wish them well if you truly love them. I like the rhyming style too. It's an endangered species.

A lovely dignified poem Tony....I don't have your quality in forgiving someone that walked away after breaking my heart.....it's a special quality to have...good luck..

It's good to look back fondly at lost love despite the pain like you're doing rather than to bury it with resentment. Stay strong my friend.
