The Difference

poem by: James Dicus

If to think of you is a crime
Than a life sentence I should serve
For I am guilty as charged

If to hold you is a sin
Than every morning I wake
Forgiveness I shall ask for

If poison was your kiss
Than a dead man I should be
Fifty times over and more

If to love you was forbidden
Than an outcast I would become
Far away I should be driven

If acid was your gaze
Than corroded be my eyes
For I can not look away

If fire was your taste
Than blistered be my tongue
For you I can not resist

If darkness was time spent with you
Than blind and pale I would be
For I would never enter light

If shrill and piercing was your voice
Than deaf I would be
For I always long to hear your words

If your laughter were a battle cry
Than at war I would always be
For I yearn to hear you joyous

If violent was your touch
Than bruised would be my skin
For I long to feel your warmth

If cutting was your heart beat
Than bloody be my hands
For I love to feel your life

I now break the cycle
To say that I'm thankful
For none of this is true

Your heart beat is gentle
Your touch is silky and smooth

Your laughter is joyful
Your voice is soft and alluring

Time spent with you brightens my world
And your taste is sweet like honey

Your gaze is deeper than space and brighter than the stars
Your love brings me close and speeds up my heart

Your kiss is tender and soft
And to hold you beats everything

I think of you night and day
Of what we are and what we will be
I love the thought of loving you
I love you more than anything

So as you go to sleep tonight miles and miles away
Just know that I'll be waiting for you
And everything will be okay
