Old Glory

poem by: Rainn Thomas

Misconceptions of freedom
linger in our midst
the holocaust is upon us
yet many close their eyes

militarized police
training with the our men and women
acting in a state of control
that is out of control

a revolution is needed
the soldiers of civility are blinded,
deafened by the media
in a fantasy created by ego

oh the days are gone
symptoms of the lost highway
battles in the streets
for emptiness unowned.

"Let them eat cake" is screamed from the hill
as they lay dying
within their own skin
souls lost to arrogance

The hangman's noose
around the neck of our rights
the corporate mudslingers play in the pit
bringing the manure to the top

disengage the education of all
feed them with distraction
the climb is hard
and often unforgiving

put on your mask
and rise in the new dawn
empower your neighbour and ally
for divided we fall

eliminate the segregation
given to us by the elite
divided we are weak
while united we stand tall

Old glory has seen many wars
yet faded and torn
her colours remain strong
Fly her proudly and remember.

Lovely poem. Sign of the times.

Poetic, but what does it stand for? Either side of the political spectrum could say: "Yes! That's what we think!
