out the closet at last

My parents knew Lucy already,
She'd been my best friend for months
She asked me out the other day
And now we're more than friends.

I remember when I was just six
I had a girl come to play
When it was time for her to go home
I kissed her on the lips in front of Dad.
I was told "Get out of my house you filthy whore!"

I didn't understand why Daddy reacted that way
What was wrong with me kissing her?
I didn't even understand what that last word had meant.

Today I told Mum about me and Lucy
And I begged her not to tell Dad.
She obeyed but Lucy and I told Dad together.
The look in his eye scared me: "You're no daughter of mine!" is what I expected him to say
But instead he sat calmly in his chair
"I know."

Out the closet after 16 years, I'm proud I finally managed to have the balls to say it.
