All the lonely people...

poem by: Frank Hornby .
Written on Mar 09, 2017

"A tired old man in the twilight of his life,
lives quietly all alone, since the death of his dear wife.
Has no family to call, and friends so very few,
weeks spent in total silence, is sadly nothing new.
All alone, and forgotten, so set in his pitiful ways,
no enjoyment of life, sometimes curtains drawn for days.
Where are his neighbours? Nobody seems to bother anymore,
no one takes the time, to knock on the old mans front door.
Just a quick call to ask, "is everything ok?"
His pitiful reply, might be his only words of the day.
He's lived a tough life, even survived two World wars,
gambled his life for his country, was prepared to die for the cause.
He yearns to have his lovely wife, again close by his side,
but the pain, and the miserable heartache, he just can't seem to hide.
So now he sits alone, wishing for time to pass him by,
a sad lonely old man, just waiting to quietly die."

So sad but is reality. Well written. Loneliness and alone are different. People may enjoy alone but hard to enjoy loneliness. Great!

So sad and true Frank. We actually had a situation like this happen with a neighbor, but every time we called in to see how he was, we were met with hostility and suspicion. A well written poem indeed.
