To The Woman Of My Dreams

poem by: Michael Wise
Written on Dec 24, 2016

I release you, fair lady

to the wind whence you came

you never had substance

nor even a name

'Twas all in my mind

and not in the earth

for my own wishful thinking

had given you birth

My high expectations

for a woman, at best

were too idealistic

so I've laid them to rest

And these things in my heart

that I longed for 'tis true

no flesh and blood being

could possibly do

You never existed

just a fanciful thought

I came to my senses

when you came to naught

So farewell, sweet lady

with the wind you are free

I no longer see you

alongside of me
