Dark Place

poem by: Zonisha Brown

Sometimes your mind likes to bring back memories you don’t want to remember. You’ll flash back to a time where you were teased and your heart was stomped on once again. Where these flashbacks take place is in a place you like to call the Dark. There are terrible things in the dark, you see your true self the one who is in hiding and wants to come out. You flinch as you remember the voices. You curl and whimper in fear because there’s no escaping them. You chant to yourself “go away” over and over again; but they don’t. You wish to die but you can’t. You wish to be happy but you won’t be. You wish to smile a real smile but you never will. You wish to know who you are but you will always be on a never-ending search.
