Rhodesia 1976

Wasted and wounded and laid on the ground
Empty brass ammo cases lie all around
Four of us faced the foe in this action, alive
Please god I’m not the only one to survive

All is quite we won this round
Still, I lie here on the ground
I have tried my wounds to tend
I’m dazed, and trying to comprehend

Helicopter blades above whizz and thump
Boots on the ground, I hear them jump
A voice overhead says” your OK my friend”
As into unconscious, I do descend

Now I lie in a clean hospital bed
I do not know for me what lies ahead
These words are not wrote for me
These are for the absentee
