Insatiable

The external gratification that you kill yourself to gain
Will one day overcome you in a selfish fit of blame
Obsessed you need to have it all you scheme you scam you lie
Abuse your friends take a mile until the well runs dry
Self-pity overwhelms you can’t believe your all alone
Peering down from your pedestal with your JD and your cones
Through tears you swear you can change you promise that you’ll share
You make the call, apologise proclaiming you still care
We have the talk, promises flow through your gritted teeth
You try your best it’s not enough your efforts all too brief
Then once more those ripe old ways rise up and overthrow
You profess you didn’t realise you claim you didn’t know
Remember when you gave gifts at Christmas by the tree
Remember how it made you feel? See giving is the key
When you’re only out for yourself happiness won’t come
No matter how loud you yell or how hard you beat your drum
In a life hell bent on taking few friends will stick around
Sick to death of your complaints not enough to go around
Now I’ve nothing left babe you’ve sucked out all you can
No longer can I be to blame when things don’t go to plan
Please just stop the ride I want off it all just feels wrong
I never want to hate you, cause you were my first love song.
