SNOWDON..

“We began our ascent on the steep llanberis path,
and within minutes my Achilles ‘tweaked’ ouch! I thought, “you’re havin’a laugh!”
Celebrating our Charlie’s 29th birthday, at this moment in time,
I never expected any problems so early into our mountain climb.
It was an adventure with my three grandsons, and Paul my son in law,
“No way am I quitting!” even though my ankle was sore.
So off we trekked with our faces full of smiles,
“Onwards, and upwards! Bring on those steep miles.
At 75yrs old, I wanted to shout it out loud!..”I’m doing this with my Grandsons!” I felt ever so proud.
As time ticked on, the path got rougher, I had to dig in, I had to get tougher.
Encouraged by the lads, Paul, Jack, Charlie, and Joe...I kept my weary legs moving, “don’t dare stop, keep on the go!”
Climbing higher, and higher with scenic views to die for,
I wondered to myself, just why I hadn’t done this climb many years before?
We stopped halfway up Snowdon, for a well earned coffee break,
looking down into the valley, with great views of a lake.
Now rested, and nourished we set off for the peak,
the weather was changing, and the forecast looked bleak.
That gruelling last mile took us up through the cold mist,
We’re all not giving up now we had to persist.
We finally reached the summit, legs aching, and cold,
but all our efforts were worth it, it really was a sight to behold.
Now after refreshments, it was time for us five to descend,
with my Achilles in real trouble, and the pain I can’t pretend.
The heavens soon opened with a torrent of heavy rain,
and all drenched to the skin, we were on the move once again.
But the feeling of achievement when we realised the daunting feat,
and the conquering of Mount Snowdon, was now finally complete."
