BY THE SEA. They met each other about a month ago in a seaside town in which she was domiciled and at first sight found some sort of affinity. The decided to meet again and he had returned to see her in that town now. The town had a long beach but it seemed to be always crowded and especially when the sun is shining and the sea is sparkling. People from the big city go there to escape from their routined, dull and sparkles lives. They needed to be helped to escape from themselves. Out of their cages of their comfort zones .Laying possession of them, the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore or by some refreshing sights of flying sea gulls driven mad by the sea breezes. mutual individual experiences by influx of common collective hankerings. The decided to move upwards the shore to find a lonely spot to taste each other’s presence. They sat near a craggy spot high above the sea with a panoramic view of blue dark waters stret horizons could give them a taste of infinity. They tried to communicate something incommunicable beyond the reach of the words. They interlocked their hands to reach those horizons through the tightening and pressing of the fingers. She wanted to come closer to him. She lay on the wet grass with her head in his lap and tried to gauge outlines of romance in the skies above and the soft roaring sounds of the waves did open a hidden doorway in her psyche. Soon a mist rose on the distant horizon and turned into a cloud like formation but that wispy thing soon disappeared. It was soon dissolved by the bright sun. His beloved lay in his laps filling his body with the pulsating warmth of life. He thought about the wispy mist which had such a brief existence and sadness came over him thinking about the briefness of the passing moments of intomacy. But why to dwell on those aspects? Why not to tastes life fully however brief the moments may be. Such moments have their fixed point with no before or after. An old man passed by and seeing the lovers sitting near the edge, came closer. He warned them about the closeness of the edge on which they were sitting. Such crags were bound to crumble sometime and fall into the sea and advised them to move away from their position and which they did and thanked him for his concerns. She snuggled even closer to him and with half closed eyes looked up to him and saw a reflection in his eyes. The universe had turned into a bluish haze and it was soothing. He bent down and planted a kiss on her eager lips and her whole became radiant and a shaft of her stray hair slid across her eyes covering them. A far away bird made a call. He realized that these trivial insignificant moments had a significance of their own and in that cold impersonal universe one had to treasure those moments for a future reference. A cold wind blew across and she shivered by that blast. He tried to shield her against by cradling her within his arms ‘Should we go for a cup of tea? It is so damned cold here?’ Durlabh Singh © 2013.
