"Way back in the 50's, only farmlands of pasture, and corn, then along came the planners, and builders, suddenly Kirkby, a Newtown was born. Scousers relocated in their thousands, to live in a brand new abode. On buses, and old trams, they all joined the Exodus down the East Lanc's road. Young families now had a real pride in having their own front door, due to Liverpools heavy destruction, during the Blitz of the 2nd World war. I grew up happy in Southdene Kirkby, on a tough, proud council estate, along with other "football daft" young scousers, to me Kirkby will always be great!
