Musings on Love

poem by: Allison Green
Written on May 03, 2017

They say to have loved and lost,
Is better than never loving at all.
But isn’t falling in love itself painful?
It says right there: It’s a fall.

But what do I know about love?
I, who am still so young,
Is it having a song in your heart?
Is it having no air in your lungs?

Is it looking, adoringly, at each other?
Is it looking in the same direction together?
Is it something you need, immediately?
Is it willing to wait forever?

Is it not being able to eat, or sleep?
Is it wishing, and pining, and blind hope?
Is it planning a big fancy wedding?
Is it the choice to run away and elope?

What is that crazy notion called love?
I guess that one day, I’ll find out.
I’ll love, I might lose, I’ll just have to wait, but
One day I’ll know what love’s all about.
