Am I Accepted For Me

poem by: Quiana Beco

Do they really accept you for you?
Do they understand all of the things you been through?
Or is it that they smile and pretend
That they are
But there really not your friend
Don't they know that you are strong
Some people living your lifestyle wouldn't last long
It would most likely be from the things they heard and couldn't handle
People speaking your name
And burning you like a candle
They have yet to understand that you are human
And have feelings to
Despite the lifestyle you see fit for you
It's the people that's close to you
Deep down inside they despise what you do
So no matter what, hold your head up high
Never mind people
There not doing the judging in the sky
They'll talk about you rather your doing good or bad
If and when you find out
They have the nerve to get mad
It's easy for them to dish you out pain
And leave you like concrete
Stuck out in the rain
So the question goes back to
Am I Accepted for me?
I've figured out the answer through your actions
It's no
So just let me be

Annie Kirby commented:
What is it you see, every time you look straight through me? We try so hard to be someone to somebody that we lose ourselves and in the end it was for nothing. Wonderful poem!
commented:
Great poem and i agree with Annie's comment as well. We do try hard to fit into other people's acceptance, and as difficult as it is, others will disappoint 100% of the time. Self acceptance is the ticket to freedom and happiness. Believe in yourself, and the right people will join you in your life in due time.
Christopher Russon commented:
I used to act in a way that made me acceptable by other people. Now I think take me or leave me.Very good poem.
