The soldier.

poem by: Christopher Russon
Written on Oct 07, 2016

The war it now is over
He will not be going back
The haunting sound of crying
The reminder of his past.

Once he was never lost for words
Now he stares with saddened eyes
These days he is seldom heard
Just struggles to get by.

Where is the man that used to be?
It seems he left himself behind
He drinks too much as we all can see
To drown his troubled mind.

So where does he go from here
The past is now the past
Will he live his life in fear
Or will those fears pass.

You are a gifted writer. Your poems reach out by making me remember of places and times past. My father was in Korea and my older cousins in Viet Nam, I was in the Air force during peace time. They are the unsung heros of yesterday and today those that have faced the middle east.

I don't think the trauma of war, and what only a soldier sees......can ever be erased......good poem.....
