Entitlement Poet

poem by:
Written on Aug 09, 2016

Do I write a masterpiece tonight,
Or draft a complete piece of crap?
Do I talk about a bird taking flight,
Or the challenge of sleep via c-pap?
Regardless of whatever slop I put out,
Someone will surely take time to applaud.
No matter what my rhymes are really about,
Hidden meanings, concise or quite broad.
Typing quickly, when I try to express,
Observations to my liking are used.
Fickle statements made hoping to impress,
Harsh opinions are blatantly excused!

Yes, to humor and rhyme - the core is missing!
Christopher Russon commented:
Many poems may seem obscure. And deep. The hidden meaning is the key To understanding All part of the art.

Methinks you need to think more about your subject matter afore putting pen to paper. Again, some good word-use, but.....
Annie Kirby commented:
Love this and so true! I write my best poem ever, a masterpiece and nobody gives it a look. I write a silly little nothing about love and lust and everyone reads it and tells me how wonderful I am.
commented:
Annie, THANK YOU!!!!!! You have completely recognized the sarcasm which was intended for this writing. I've seen what you have described occur; sometimes something so awful is applauded as the greatest, and something quite wonderful becomes overlooked. You have made my day with your understanding of this writing. Thanks again!
Geoffrey Brewer commented:
Tchakivski was very dismissive of his 'Nutcracker' composition, but it came to be one of his most popular pieces.
Geoffrey Brewer commented:
I share some of your frustration at the incongruous and seeming perverse mismatches between poems and comments. You might check my poem: 'Emotional Attraction' for similar observations.
