Betrayal

poem by:
Written on Jul 30, 2016

Friends become your enemies,
An enemy acts as your friend.
Nothing makes sense anymore,
When obscure identities blend.

Everyone is available,
But not one that I can trust.
And as I gaze around this room,
My mind is filled with disgust.

I have given you my all,
There is nothing left to give.
You only know how to take,
Is that any way to live?

I will never understand,
How people can be so cold.
What led them to this place,
Where callousness did unfold?

I want everyone to be happy,
Can't we all just get along?
But my perception is a false one,
And it is obvious I have been wrong.

Ignorance is forged in stone,
So I will just need to rise above.
The misery they do embrace,
And transcend it with pure love.

Cecilia Crasto commented:
Keep you friends close, but your enemies closer. Very well written.

Nice! Your enemies come with smiles. And what to deserve this betrayal? Some give away their souls then spend their lives trying to steal others to replace what they cannot feel anymore. Hate cannot feel love but love can feel hate. Very good poem!

Thanks Ellen. Very profound statement you made: Hate cannot feel love but love can feel hate. Stored that one in my memory bank :)
