Election Let Down

poem by:
Written on Jul 23, 2016

wow, do we have some choices for you!
doesn't matter whether you're red or blue.
One is a liar, and the other a dope,
Between the two, we don't have much hope.
This country is split, between dumber and dumb,
Listening to the rhetoric, makes my brain numb.
Make America great again, but it already is that way,
Should we kick the world's ass? No! give China their pay.
Cut taxes, raise taxes, neither side has a good plan,
Not a good choice for this woman, or for this man!
Typical bullshit commercials, will mudslinging never end?
For the sake of the public, neither side is willing to bend.
They are all for themselves, making their pockets deeper,
Regardless of who is elected, our debt will become steeper.
Silly human race, as our hordes follow their elected pied piper,
Who smiles as the knife is plunged in, with the poison of a viper!
The United States of America? Divided is a more accurate title,
You can witness more maturity at a 6 year old's dance recital.
People including politicians have become too involved in our lives,
Invading our privacy, like a swarm of bees buzzing in their hives.
Term limits are a must, they must no longer be elected as a career,
They must return to the private sector, and of real life be made aware.
No more hiding behind Uncle Sam, who'll take your life, as well as your money,
Impersonating your personal friend, to an old man on the street, "Good day, Sonny"
Look no further to your government, an organization infiltrated with ill will and deceit,
If it doesn't start representing the people, the day is coming we will see their defeat.

Geoffrey Brewer commented:
I am taking the liberty of responding with one of my pieces that seem relevant. Sonnet for the politically correct [There is a history of the world, parallel with that which we know - or is it?] Then Horatius slew no foes to defend the bridge But invited Lars Porsena across for tea and crumpets With our English dead did we not close up the breach Nor storm the wall to sound of drums and trumpets No promise of toil, tears, and sweat was made, but in lieu One of handouts entitlements, counselling and free contraceptives Our spokesmen were exhorted to tolerate every view No 'evil empire' was confronted, with robust invective We submitted to dependence, delusion and wishful thinking In that parallel world of sweetness, light and no villainy On a gradual slippery slope not aware we were sinking In a slow subtle deluge of utopian soft tyranny Such a bland decaying world we inherit if we neglect The fight for freedom, but embrace the politically correct

Very deep indeed Geoffrey. Why isn't this poem listed in your pondrin collection?
Geoffrey Brewer commented:
Thanks Now it is.
