CLEVER

poem by: Reeves
Written on Jul 22, 2016

Who do you think you are? No star,
only misguided and unrecognized from afar,
however, we go on making the same mistakes,
like so many climaxes turning out to be fakes.

I was called brilliant, unworthy of the accolade,
what have you done when you thought you had it made?
Our time is short - soon we will be forgotten,
you only remembered that some cotton was rotten.

I was called bright, having great realizations,
can you live up to other people's expectations,
no, you can not, you are fallible and unreliable,
what you were today suddenly becomes untenable.

They asked me for advice based on experience,
what was well meaning turned into
insolence.
