I see

poem by: Annette Everson

I see her standing at the gate,
I see in her eyes the anger and hate,
I see the light inside her shining,
I see her soul hurt and pinning,
I see the look the social worker gave her,
I see the cat in her arms purr,
I see her look up at me,
I see she looks hopeful as we sip our tea.
I see the mistrust in her eyes,
I see the social worker say her bye byes.

I see the look of hope in her soul
as I empty breakfast cereal in a bowl.
I see the mistrust ebbing away in her eyes,
I see the hurt and pain that dies,

I see the anger and the rage
when temper flares like a trapped animal in a cage.
I see my patience, understanding take effect,
I see the beginnings of love reflect.

I see it in her soul, acceptance, love and trust.
I see a child growing up now free from dust.
I see a child that now calls me by my name,
I see a foster child that came,

I see a woman who's gained a lot,
I see person recovered from being shot.
I see a grown woman who's now enjoying life,
I see a girl that's now a mother and a wife.
I see a woman who still calls me mum
I see a human that's now not so glum
I see in her eyes gratitude
I see a positive attitude.
I see the next foster mother,
I see her helping another.

Really good poem.
Michael LoMonaco commented:
Repetition works well in this poem. good word choice for rhymes. I like what it stands for. overall, great job!
Shanta commented:
Existence intrinsically sorrowful - lines of poetry must burn through the language - in order to "undress" perception.
Martyn Grindrod commented:
I see you can write ☺

The noise and smell hit me first I thought my eardrums were going to burst. I walked passed a line of pleading eyes, and all I could do is express heavy sighs. Wet noses, sad, tortured eyes, in smelly cages, Kennel maids,... Read more
