The Two Sides of a Mask

poem by: Melissa Marker
Written on May 03, 2015

I will crawl inside you and wear you as my mask
I will live life through you and do anything you ask
You will only trust me I'll be everything you need
And if some day your hurt its me that will bleed
I will be the ending of everything you are
I will stand strong in you as you slowly fall apart
I will completely change you into what I want to see
And fight to stay within you when you try to free yourself of me
I am the mask you hid behind but the one you chose to wear
And when you look into your eyes you'll see my empty stares
Hopeless sounds you'll scream out loud as your bodies froze in place
And the mirror crashes to the ground as a smile contorts your face
A mangled soul behind the mask the one I claimed to be
Has now become what I crawled into your now inside of me

Annamarie Sampson commented:
There are no words to describe how beautifully you were able to put this pain into words. This is phenomenal, and so well written.
Ernest Areheart commented:
I really loved this. I like your prose, you're so bare. It's like slowly pressing a raw nerve, and hits deep.
Christopher Russon commented:
Wow.
