"Families arrived...from the Liverpool slums... ..most with Mums 'n' Dads...some with just Mums.. Kirkby was the place...to start a new life.. only ten miles from Liverpool...possibilities were rife.. Lots of young kids...with hours, and hours to play.. girls had their skipping ropes...the lads played football all day.. Thirty six families lived in the six blocks..of three story flats.. ...along with at least four dogs....I didn't see any cats.. Most of us kids were only six, or seven years old.. We'd hardly ever seen green fields...it was a sight to behold!. We all thought we were in paradise..no two days were ever the same.. as soon as the footy was over...we'd play another fun game.. Growing up in Kirkby was the best time of my young life... I left when I was twenty one...back home to Liverpool with Mary my wife!"
