dark love story part 1

The stars above looked like nothing I'd ever seen before. Don’t get me wrong I've seen plenty of stars but I'd never seen the sky as clear as it was out in the country, I was more of a city girl. I watched a shooting star fly across the sky as I laid back in the soft grass. My arms were crossed under my head which made my dress ride up just a little but I never wore a dress short enough that it was a problem.

One minute I'm sitting at my laptop messaging a friend I had made in high-school the next he's inviting me on a road trip to visit a farm his uncle owned. We were close and I had always had a soft spot for him but he could have any girl he wanted and that list didn't include me. He was easily six foot tall with dark hair and blue grey eyes that could spark whenever he had a stupid or wicked idea the complete opposite to me and yet almost intoxicating he hid them behind glasses most of the time but not tonight.

I'm short roughly five foot three with blonde curly hair that came down to my shoulders green eyes and a Cheshire cat smile that meant if I wore red lipstick I looked like a two year old playing in her mothers make-up. But here I was alone with Alex in the grass at midnight in the middle of nowhere on his uncles farm. He swore he invited me just because he was bored and enjoyed my company but I knew there was a line for his attention that kept his phone going off constantly.

“Are you going to answer that,” I laughed as his phone buzzed for what felt like the thousandth time. He chuckled and imitated throwing his phone smiling at me the whole time. My breath caught at the sound of his laugh.
“That would be rude, I made you drive this whole way,” Alex answered in response as he rolled on to his stomach and started shredding blades of grass with his fingers.
“Yeah that sucked by the way I nearly got cleaned up by a speeding truck,” I chuckled taking my eyes of the stars to watch him braid long grass pieces together. “Are you going to tell me what's bugging you or do I just let you destroy your uncle's grass one piece at a time?” I asked as I noted a deep frown that had formed on Alex's face.

“I don't know why you agreed to come up here, I remember how much you hated camp back in school,” Alex said.
“That's different were not sleeping in a tent and the bathroom isn’t a caravan park style community one,” I nudged him with my leg. He grinned and nudged me back.
“I know but this isn't even one of those normal farms with animals it's more like a bachelor pad in the middle of nowhere and we have the whole place to ourselves plus the staff who work here. How weird is that by the way?” Alex rolled on his side bracing his head on his hand.
“Feels like an homage to your uncles ego,” I chuckled.

“Yeah it's pretty weird, but you said your room-mates were driving you nuts when he asked you to house sit whilst he's in England and work didn't mind giving you a week off,” I reminded him as I tried my best to ignore how close he was. Alex just worked factory work as he was waiting for an apprenticeship in carpentry so he could take over his uncles chains of furniture stores and maybe own his own fancy bachelor pad with staff one day. The factory work had improved the muscles he had seemed to be born with so that didn't help me. It has to be called a crush because it damn near crushes you to death, I thought as I closed my eyes and breathed in the fresh air.

“Yeah I guess your right I just feel so out of place here,” Alex muttered. I couldn't tell with my eyes closed but I was pretty sure he had rolled back onto his back, he was never one to sit still long.
“If you think that why did you invite me? I look even more out of place here, I swear one of the maids expected me to pick up a mop and start working with them,” I laughed opening my eyes and sitting up. Alex half chuckled a thick sleepy laugh that sent shivers down my spine.
