BLACKBIRD

poem by: Darryl Ashton
Written on Jan 07, 2018

We love you, Mr Blackbird,
With those eyes so bright,
You're the first bird we see
each morning,
And the last we see at night.

You're a patient little fellow,
As you wait for special treats,
And when we've had our
dinner,
It's time for more repeats.

When it's time for baby
blackbirds,
You really are the best -
So busy tending to their
needs,
You never seem to rest.

There are times when you
get us going,
When you're looking for
the worms,
And you follow me with
the watering can,
Which often makes me
squirm.

You give us endless
pleasure,
And just a little pain,
But you are always very
welcome,
And we want you back
again.
