Sincerly, Me

poem by: Lily Waites
Written on Nov 01, 2017

I see them now.
I'm watching my mother, my father and Zoe, who I don't even know.
I'm watching Evan, who created a false persona of me.
I'm watching the project of my namesake grow.
I'm watching Jared and Alana, waiting to see...
Will they ever figure out the true, sincere version of me?

I see them now.
I'm watching Evan struggle against himself.
I'm watching my parents cope thanks to him.
I'm watching Evan try to keep his mental health.
I'm watching Evan tremble, limb from limb.
Will they ever figure out the true, sincere version of me?

I see them now.
I'm watching Evan with Zoe, hand in hand.
I'm watching Jared burn up with anger inside.
I'm watching Alana struggle to understand.
I'm watching Evan continue on, losing time to bide.
They never figured out the true, sincere version of me...

Really well written, Lily. The usage of repetition at a fine degree. Related to Dear Evan Hansen, no? Keep writing. Much Loved. -T

Of course, you noticed. 'Tis related to Dear Evan Hansen, yes. I'm glad you noticed. Thank you, friend.

To Zoe, who I don't even know. You've been on my mind for awhile. I've watched you grow. Nothing completes me more than to see you smile. The way you play in jazz band is like nothing I've seen. I just wish you could see me. ... Read more
