HALLOWEEN

poem by: Darryl Ashton

Halloween is here again,
October 31st....
Watch our for Count
Dracula;
He has a devil of a thirst!

Tonight a million pumpkins
Have been carved out
with a knife,
And flickering little candles
Have brought them all to
life.

Look up to the sky and
glimpse
A witch upon a broom,
Or a flock of nocturnal
bats
Silhouetted by the moon.

Children wearing fancy
dress
Walk up and down the
streets,
Knocking loud on all the
doors,
Offering tricks or treats.

When you venture up
the stairs
And creep into your bed.
Do not be at all surprised
If a spider's spun a web.

Hiding in a corner
You may just spy a ghost.
Welcome him with open
arms;
Tonight you are his host.

Just across the hallway
The floorboards have
gone creaky,
There's not a single soul
in sight -
It all seems very freaky!

The devil's left a voice-
mail
On your mobile phone,
You cannot understand
it -
It sounds just like a groan!

We must uphold this
great tradition
And enjoy the revelry.
I hope that Halloween
lives on
For all eternity.
