A CAR NAMED DAISY

poem by: Darryl Ashton
Written on Aug 03, 2017

I've bought myself a
new car,
I've called her Daisy,
she's a right little star.
In the dark of night
her dashboard's alight
Like the helm of a
spaceship about to
take flight.

Her colour's the same
as I had before
But now I've gone up
from two doors to
four.
She has numerous
buttons for pressing
and gauges by the
score,
The engine does that
stop-start thing, there's
a ding when I open the
door.

There's a holder for my
coffee cup, a plug to
charge my phone,
A clunk as the central
locking works, all on
its spooky own!
The key stem is secreted,
in the fob it's tucked
away,
A single press of a
button and out it
comes to play.

There are numbers
that will inform me of
the temperature, the
time, the date,
And how many miles
my petrol will last if I
continue to drive at this
rate.
The handbook's rather
a puzzle, it must be
three foot thick,
I've read it many, many
times, but the technical
stuff refuses to stick.

I'm sure I've still got
a lot to learn about
what this small car
can do
And as we drive along
gently, I know that one
thing is true -
She has no need to
impress me, as there
are just two things it
takes
One is a reliable engine -
and the second? A good
set of brakes!

Hahaha...I remember my first "car"....a sky blue Vauxhall viva, the gear stick would often come off in my hand!.....I would be sitting there holding what looked like a chicken 🍗 leg in my left hand!....haha...loved the poem Darryl....
