Last Lullaby

poem by: Julius Brian Cruz
Written on Jun 14, 2017

By the infinite night sky, I whispered the words “I’m Sorry...”
Gazing at the falling stars, wishes they never grant me.
And ever since then, like a child, innocence that time took from me.
Eyes that were once so bright, burned out like childhood fantasies.

Beneath the eyes of sinners, is a wounded inner child.
Needs that were never met, Wants that were never given.
Searching everlastingly, lost memories within time.
Consoling themselves, with a gold that never really shined.

A beautiful illusion.... a mask that smiles; a face that tears.
Trying to piece tomorrow, a trail of failure years.
Living on each day, with the words “I’m Okay!”.
Below the pendent cross, no one heard him pray.

With a pen and a paper, by the infinite night sky.
Tracing the words “I’m Sorry!”, the inner child cries.
Till tomorrow wakes, till the pain subsides.
Don’t read me.........”My Last Lullaby”...
