Father

poem by: Keith Sibanda
Written on Jan 03, 2014

My world shook with a sudden and violent force.
Losing my balance, i hurriedly searched for your broad fatherly
shoulders to hold on to
and in that split second of falling hard towards the unforgiving solid ground,
i was again reminded of your  absence.
A void that can never be filled.
So i fell flatly without a struggle.
Not eager to ever get up...
But  i got up.
Got tired of the sand in my mouth and eyes,
wich have become another reminder of you
mother said i have your eyes.
Screamed your names out loud! loud
ENOUGH to break the air.
Never got a reply or that lousy nearly-close-to-extinction letter.
So i fed myself a spoonful  of lies
maybe that's just my left brained attitude trying to have an
explanation for everything i'll probably never understand.
To you, who showed a clean pair of heels when the sky fell.
Bound to return when the dust has settled.

Good imagery throughout this backward look at a father no longer there to turn to. Well said. Take care. Janet
