Cleansed

"Goodbye" was the thunder clap that shook me awake
Unaware I was sleeping until your warm smile left the nest beside me
I was alone, and cold, in the night...
And like a landslide it moved me from a mindset I was so securely fastened to
Tears dripped from the black cloud that followed me like nectar seeps from a freshly plucked, dying flower
And in the grip of an aggressive child it crumbles
The fragile petals wilted and my mind snapped like a perfectly green stem
Oh little boy! You forgetfully cast me, your trampled masterpiece, to the ground
You hurt me
My innocent feet have slipped in the mud of your memory, pulling me down again and again
Still, I followed you, calling your name in the tempest
You got what you wanted
Except this one last thing, to disappear in the fog
So, you silenced yourself and stepped away into the mist
Tucking my heart like a trinket into your pocket
And the rain poured, and the seas raged
But through this storm I have been cleansed
Erasing your signature from my life with the waters of adversity
because smooth seas never made for a skilled sailor
I thought my heart was drowning in a flash flood of agony
But it was a beautiful illusion!
A baptism by immersion in my darkest grief
And as I broke the surface I gasped in the air of a new life
Realizing another had reached into the depths and grabbed me by my soul
I came up dancing!
And once again, the flower is beautiful
The grass is growing green on my side of the fence now
The earth greets me warmly as songbirds guide me
And basking in the glowing sun of new love
I can no longer remember the storm
