Marathon Man

poem by: Frank Hornby .
Written on Feb 14, 2017

"The long distance runner, is almost dead on his feet,
but he's got to keep on running, he has his personal best to beat.
Three hours of pure concentration, all thoughts focused on the race,
can't afford to slow down, must keep up the gruelling pace.
It's not far now, to the finishing line, he's desperate not to fall,
fighting doubts within his mind...he suddenly hits "the wall,"
Twenty six miles of torture, he's got to forget the pain,
with lungs almost bursting! adrenalin floods his brain.
His legs are oh so weary, almost ready to explode!
But something deep within keeps pushing his aching body along that road.
There's just no feeling like it, when the race is finally ran,
people might call him crazy, but he's a marathon man."

I love the imagery in this. It felt like I was running the marathon with him. Great work!
