THE GHOST HUNT AT SCARINGHAM CASTLE

poem by: Graham Jenkinson

There was going to be a ghost hunt tonight
In scaringham castle at the edge of the wood
A very famous television medium would be there
The advert promised that it would be good

The sign outside stated "Ghost hunt"
Here in Scaringham castle tonight
Come along if you dare to join us
Welcome to this "fright night "

So I paid my money and entered
Then I stood by an old oak chair
The medium made his entrance
With dazzling white teeth and hair

He opened his arms and said welcome
To those who are both living and dead
He then told all of us who were gathered
That in the west wing was an haunted bed

The medium spoke in a Liverpool accent
As he started paced across the floor
There is a ghost figure drawing closer
You can see it stood by the door

The ghost hunt at scaringham castle
Once owned by a famous old Lord
The Ghost hunters gathered together
Around the Parker brothers Ouija board

Other guests were tipping tables
The Pendulums swung too and fro
People were using dowsing rods
Everybody was Having a go

The tarot cards on the table
What a story they did tell
Pentacles, Wands, Swords Cups
On the table in order they fell

The ghost hunters Started their Hunting
Camera flashes filled the air
Photographing orbs by the dozen
Was that a smokey figure on the stair

Then came the sound of footsteps
A ghost walked right through the wall
Sitting in a chair by the fireside
Appeared an old lady wrapped in a shawl

A suit of Armour seemed to move
There was a sound of rattling chain
In the distance they heard a whistle
Of a ghostly railroad train

The Ghost hunters were becoming afraid
There was a ghostly knock at the door
But it was only a Jehovah's witness
With watchtower books by the score

They managed to close the door on him
Then much to their surprise
A ghastly, ghostly figure
In the fireplace did arise

The ghastly, ghostly figure smiled
With a strange but knowing grin
Thank you ever so much he said
Its taken me years to get rid of him

But soon the dawn started breaking
Time to bring the ghost hunt to an end
The ghost of Scaringham castle
Was now their very good friend
