A Prayer in the Garden

poem by: Greg Woods
Written on Dec 26, 2013

A raindrop alights ,gently on his cuff.
It's time to find shelter, for today he's done enough.
The music lingers quietly, peacefully in the cool,
as he quickly gathers his thoughts, and lays down his tools.

He's been working in the garden, to the rhythm and the sway,
of the trees in the breeze, of the cool overcast day.
The music of the world , has been playing in his mind,
and now the gentle raindrops, start beating to the time.

As he stands in the shelter and surveys what he owns,
the rain gains momentum and caresses what he's sown.
It pleases him to know, that nature is with he,
helping him produce life, all the greenness that he sees.

This fertile soil gives life, not only to plants and trees,
but also to the gardener, down working on his knees.
He feels the earth on his fingertips, the breeze upon his skin,
the sunshine caressing his body, the aromas he's breathing in.

Quietly meditating, to the music of the world,
the harp-like vibrations of the ferns as they unfurl.
Soothing and solving in this quiet gentle way,
with the earth, plants and animals, and the trees as they sway.
