Nature and Metal

poem by: Dian Holmes
Written on Nov 29, 2016

"The flower is simple." the robot implies.
"It sprouts. It grows. It wilts. It dies"
"It provides while it thrives on direct solar power?"
The lady hands robot the flower.
"Look deeper" she says. "Its not the object you hold."
"Its the gift that's been given that never grows old."
"Its the miles we driven and the nights on the town"
"Its the sight. The smell. The sound."
The robot zooms in with binocular vision.
"so the flower represents a decision?"
The robot inquires as he examines each pedal.
In the contrast of nature and metal.
"Never forget just how it was found"
"No regret" he did say "There it lay on the ground."
"Just needing some water and to be found."
"So I emptied my tank and brought light all around"
"And the flower did bloom and allowed us to take it"
"Upon only the promise to never forsake it"
"Now we keep it safe and forever in splendor"
"In vase of our hearts where we both can remember"
