HI! HO!

HI! HO!

A few years ago my wife and I made a pilgrimage to Memphis Tennessee. One of the less noted attractions there was to be seen in a down town hotel where, every day at a certain time there was 'The duck parade'. In the centre of the lobby was a large shallow pool with a fountain, initially otherwise empty. Mid morning one day (and presumably every day) a group of tourists, ourselves among them, waited expectantly. Then the doors of an elevator opened, a flock of assorted ducks emerged, apparently independent of human influence, proceeded across the lobby with a purposeful manner and much quacking, and jumped into the pool.

Here in Kiara Condominium, Bercham, most evenings about sunset time you can witness a parade of another kind. If you find yourself in the broad breezy corridor on the ground floor of each of the twin towers of the condo at this time, you will often see the lift doors open and a group of young women emerge, strikingly dressed in a style best described as "tarty" (rather like many of our teenage visitors in summer school), and rightly so, since these young ladies are, as my granny might have said, "no better than they should be". Exiting the lift they proceed purposefully, not towards the pool, but to the car park, with much clicking and clacking as their six inch heels beat out a percussion on the tiled floor, to jump into a series of limousines that will carry them to any of the karaoke bars and night clubs in down-town Ipoh. The ladies are locally known sometimes as China girls (that's where most come from) or more often as "Ayam" which is Malay for "chicken(s)". Hence we have the "Chicken parade"; and here end the tortured links with my first paragraph.

Around the same time of day my wife and I often take a little walk round the compound as an aid to digestion. Witnessing the parade, we often burst softly into a rendition of the Dwarves' song from "Snow White..." - "Hi ho! Hi ho! It's off to work we go". So it came to me that a few new verses might be appropriate. And here they are.

Hi ho!

High heels, high heels we like to wear high high heels
With a click clack here and a click clack there
Just like a Flamenco

High skirts, tight shirts, they're suitable for flirts
With a wiggle here and a jiggle there
You'll forget the Alamo

So off we go, to the karaoke show
With a sing song here and a ding dong there
Wa ho! Wa ho!

High stools, High stools
We sit on high bar stools
With legs crossed here and legs crossed there
It's quite a show

Click clink, clink clink
You can buy me another drink
If the price is right, well then we might
Have a Yo! Ho! Ho!

Then home we go
Just as the cocks do crow
We can sleep all day until the next play
On the old banjo

Thanks John. That's one of the nicest things anyone has said.
