We And A Fish

poem by: John Prophet
Written on Nov 04, 2016

A speck of blue in the limitless black.
The infinite of existence.
All we know so finite.
Like a fish in an aquarium whose universe consists of
the aquarium and what little is observable in the immediate surrounding.
The fish has not concept of what’s down the hall,
in the next room, what’s upstairs, what’s down the street,
what’s in the next town, next country or on the moon.
Like the fish, we see our world and what our telescopes allow.
Like the fish we know nothing about what’s beyond our vision.
What in fact do we know at all?
