Teenage angst: a parents wish

I hope that you'll know,
One day, when you're grown,
Just how much I hoped
As you moped and you moaned
'It's not fair!' and complained,
And you always looked pained
When I asked you to help
And you sulked and withheld
Any care, any thoughts,
To be kind and to meet
Me half way but you cheat
And you lie and I pray,
That one day
When you're grown,
That you'll know.
And be kind.
