Lonely Child

She sits alone in her room, and she is role playing with her favorite doll,
Why can't they get along, she thinks, as she hears them through her wall.
Things didn't used to be this way, she recalls a time when peace prevailed,
A time when anger was held at bay, but alas, that ship has long ago sailed.
No one else to talk to, just a lifeless doll, but for now it is her best friend,
Her emotions and pain have reached a new high, the drama starts to blend.
If she is not reassured, this is not her fault, she will surely take on the blame,
It's what children do, for they don't realize, bystanders should not incur shame.
Hopefully she will not be scarred, by this living example of wrong vs. right,
Surely she will see that life is quite hard, and the answer is not to just fight.
They should talk to their child, and keep her informed, in an effort to relieve her pain,
For if they choose to ignore, it will not go away, and there will remain an emotional stain.
Children absorb their surroundings, like a sponge that soaks up much water,
Let's hope for the sake of society, not another statistical end for this daughter.

A sad story , so well written. Why do we humans beat ourselves up so much and let our children suffer?
