Stress Boomerang

Hello again stress; what has taken you so long to return?
You make my skin crawl, my body ache, and my stomach churn.
Following me around, like a shadow from the very pits of hell,
I lose you for a moment, then out of nowhere you begin to swell.
My soul is used to your scorn, you're as constant as comfort food,
When I think I've finally broken free, you return, how can you I elude?
You claim rights to all of humanity, no one is removed from your list,
Causing all of us at one time or another, to clench our jaws and our fist.
Many people take your kryptonite for relief, thinking a simple pill will do the trick,
But they're only fooling themselves, for relief is short lived, and the relapse is quick.
You've assimilated yourself into so many places, including work and also our houses,
Destroying all that stand in your path, ruining friendships, and splitting up spouses.

I like your poem Michael. Like a boomerang stress will always come back hopefully not with a vengeance.

Michael, enjoyed your slant on a much dreaded subject... My favourite line “Following me around like a shadow from the very pits of hell”... For mine the weapon to minimise stress is self discipline... if it perturbs numb it out, easier said than done sometimes, but if you feel uncomfortable with something then you are better off disciplining yourself to feel nothing at all... Hate is a good example if you can’t feel good will towards someone then you are better off discipling yourself to feel nothing at all towards that person/situation... Hate is negative and self destroying. Goodwill/Love is positive and self preserving... If it is out of mind then it can’t follow you around.

I like it! Your use of language and the imagery. Relatable and accessible.

Thanks James. Unfortunately, we live in a breakneck speed world today. Not enough time taken to sit back and take in the beauty of our world. Too busy trying to forge our career paths, etc. Everyone is in a hurry 24/7.
