THE REFUGEE

poem by: Cecilia Crasto
Written on Aug 31, 2016

With hope in his heart he crosses the seas
Arriving in a country of a million dreams
He has been given a second chance
Embraced with love and open arms
He can walk his pace at an easy stride
And never run from bullets and knives
He has a story he needs to tell
Of horrors endured his escape from hell
The land he hailed from was ridden with vice
Living each day at the edge of a knife
In his mind's eye he'll forever see
The faces of those who couldn't flee
Mothers carrying babies that didn't cry
The babies were dead women's eyes were dry
A genuine refugee setting out to find
A life of peace leaving violence behind.

Christopher Russon commented:
A really well written poem about the plight of so many refugees. And I agree they all have a story to tell.

Thoughtful poem.....genuine refugees should be welcomed into every country....with open arms..........it must be hell on Earth, not being able to escape mans atrocities.....to fellow man..
