The Forest Thought

poem by: Cheryl Ashmore
Written on Jan 16, 2016

When I go to the forest, I go there to think
Not of the day to day, the tub or the sink
The deeper things, like the family and my goals
Forest is my salvage as I walk its floors and stroll

Forest floors all littered with dewy cones and spicy coloured leaves
Give me memories and ideas, which I never grieve
I take to the forest, where I can meditate its wisdom
For the forest is my friend its new found freedom

The forest is quiet, fresh animal tracks leading to their homes
It offers the satiety we all acquire, its gates we roam
Golden is our forest, as we take in its scent
The thought, it makes me think, it never misrepresents

The forest thought

As I walk through the forest this morning, I gathered my thoughts together as I think of my mother in the battle of her life with cancer.....this is for you mom!
