Poem #1

Look at their beautiful faces
Look at the smiles
Hear the laughter
Enjoy while you may
Unknown terrors may await
They do not enter your mind
Life will always be happy
Should I warn them?
Why bother their bliss?

Look at me, strangers
Look at me, friends
Hear my crying
Enjoy this now, my enemies
Unknown is my future
They tell me everything will be okay
Life is good
Should I seek something more?
Why is this so?

No title, confused about what your subject was.

Edward Shields, I wrote this poem almost 2 years ago when my 1 year old daughter was in the hospital with severe burns on half her body from a house fire. I didn't know if she was going to live or die. I saw people around me smiling and laughing and I felt that they were living their lives in the dark, not realizing the pain that was in their future. I wanted to tell them, but I didn't think they would understand or believe me. People say "life is good" but I didn't know if that was true or not. I didn't know why my daughter had to be almost burned to death and I wanted to understand. The "beautiful faces" part is because my daughter had burns on her face and I knew she would be scared for life. I thought that people were all taking their faces for granted. The enemy is actually Satan. I felt like he sent a demon to start a fire in my house and kill my daughter. The poem actually comes from deep inside of me and helped me express myself when the emotional pain was almost unbearable. There is no title because I never gave it a title.
