The Fall

poem by: Royce B
Written on Apr 01, 2015

Swaying in a gentle breeze
A leaf rests within a tree
Relishing its sturdy home
Knowing not that it would soon be alone

Swiftly comes the Fall
For nature would not stall
Harshly the winds come
And the leaf's grasp is undone

Its future, no longer green
The yellowing of time rots it at the seams

The leaf knows not which is worse
Its stem to its home being broken by force
Or the death of things that had yet to grow
All it knows is that it wishes this wasn't so

For the leaf this is the end of it all
Yet the tree continues to stand tall
For the leaf this is death
Yet for the tree, this takes but a breath

The tree is unaffected
Its life goes uninterrupted
It continues to grow
It doesn't notice the leaf go

Milton Robertson commented:
A lovely poem, But the tree know it can't worry about the leaf, cause one day it to must go. we all have to turn the page, go to the next stage. This we can't see, but life goes on into infinity.

I really like your poem.To me the leaf represents human life and how short lived it is. The tree represent the earth a leaf is frail compared the tree.
