Match Heeled Moccasins

poem by: Lef Turner

the sign beside the shoes on the shelf
said "custom built match heeled moccasins"
made in the usa from 100% unforgotten sins
well i thought to myself i've just gotta get a pair
               i guess i just didn't care
if there was consequence or not
i liked those moccasins a lot
so picked up a pair immediately
                 put them on my feet
and out the door i walked
and as the acrid smell of smoke
burned my nose and the back of my throat
i knew that it was greedy of me
but i didn't look back cause i didn't want to see
as they fell into their ditches
as if somehow i've always known
           the smell of burning bridges
